Stepping into the Washington Inn & Tavern feels like entering a cozy time capsule. The historic charm of the place, with its ancient timbers and log burning fires, creates a truly homely atmosphere. The self-guided walking tour around the 36 historic buildings nearby, including the impressive Teackle Mansion, immerses you in the local history and adds depth to your stay.Breakfast, prepared freshly to order with a friendly Eastern Shore touch, was a delightful start to the day. The complimentary meal set a high standard that the dinner almost met. The only hiccup was the use of frozen strawberries in the strawberry shortcake, a minor letdown in an otherwise fantastic dining experience. Chef James truly shines in the kitchen.Exploring the area further, we found Princess Anne to be the perfect base for day trips, especially to uniquely beautiful Smith Island and Tangier Island. The convenience of having kayak, bike, boat, and jet ski rentals delivered to our door made outdoor excursions a breeze. The eclectic range of wines available by the glass or bottle added a touch of sophistication to our evenings at the tavern. The cozy accommodations, delicious meals, and the warm hospitality of the staff left us feeling like old friends. We will definitely be back to enjoy more of what this charming B&B has to offer and to explore the wonders of Maryland's Eastern Shore.
